2022 Domaine Rollin Père et Fils Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille Blanc

$59.99
2022 Domaine Rollin Père et Fils Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille Blanc
Our offer of Corton Charlemagne yesterday blew out, and we are looking for more buys. In the meantime, we have another outstanding buy from Rollin, this time a bit of an under-the-radar selection from Rollin's home village of Pernand-Vergelesses. As we mentioned in yesterday's offer, this is a domaine we love and have visited but never get to offer often. This address was established in the 1950s in Pernand-Vergelesses and has made some fantastic wines over the years, with the new generation really taking the Domaine to the next level. The Sous Fretille comes from a steep south-facing plot about the village of Pernand, featuring classic Clay-limestone soils with many small stones in the topsoil. Rollin planted this vineyard at the end of the 80s, and the vines are starting to hit their prime, producing some excellent, vibrant, yet concentrated fruit. Viens are sustainably tended, and the fruit here is hand-harvested and fermented in 30% new oak. This is a wine that takes on a bit of Corton-Charlemagne personality with its richness and generosity but with outstanding complexity and finesse. It is another outstanding example of the high-quality winemaking happening at Domaine Rollin and easily one of the best values for Premier Cru Burgundy in 2022.

Jasper Morris MW (inside Burgundy) 92 points! "Bottled just one week ago. Mid lemon yellow. The nose here is also closed but shows a greater potential strength of character than Clous. There is a more evident backbone to this and though the oak offers a little touch of coconut through the middle, there are waves of attractive white fruit flavour on show as well. Clean fresh apples at the back. Promising. Sous Frétille has benefitted from a green harvest."

Vinous (Neil Martin) 91 points! "The 2022 Pernand-Vergelesses Sous Frétille 1er Cru sports a very subtle reduction on the nose and is well defined, with beeswax, fern and light crushed stone aromas. This is impressive, and it exploits the propitiousness of this vineyard. The palate is well balanced, with a slightly creamy texture and hints of almond and meringue, the oak well integrated on the finish. This is a classy Pernand-Vergelesses that should give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure. Tasted at merchants' 2022 Burgundy tastings in London."
