2022 Pierre Boisson Macon-Bray Les Essarts

$29.99
2022 Pierre Boisson Macon-Bray Les Essarts

We visited Pierre Boisson at his Domaine last week. While he doesn't currently have much wine to sell, we were able to taste some of the lesser wines, which were quite exceptional, especially this wine, the Macon-Bray Les Essarts. Pierre uses the same care for this wine as he does for his top wines, just less oak and mostly old barrels and tanks. There are lovely aromas of lemon chiffon, kiwi, lime, liquid minerals, and a  touch of savory herbs. The pallet has lovely focus, admirable depth with yellow fruits, and salinity, finishing with lots of dry extracts. This is not a big blousy Macon, but a more focused and precise one, which is the kind we like. Most of the production of this wine is done in France, and we are currently the only source in the USA.

The Boissons have been in Meursault for almost two centuries, and though the production is small and mainly focused on village-level wines, they are classic and genuine expressions of this stunning terroir made possibly by their selection of old vines. Pierre Boisson, Anne Boisson, and Boisson Vadot all work together in the same cellar and follow the family 'style.' While the Bourgogne Blanc from Pierre and Anne are identical, the two bottle their own set of wines from the family vines, with Anne bottling their old plot of Meursault Genevrieres planted in 1975, among others, and Pierre bottling most of the Lieu Dits and reds. Years ago, it was an insider's secret that Boisson and Coche's sons were good friends and that the Boisson wines little more than resembled their more famous neighbors.
