2023 Patrick Jasmin Côte-Rôtie La Giroflarie

$59.99
2023 Patrick Jasmin Côte-Rôtie La Giroflarie

The wines from Patrick Jasmin have quietly become some of the best buys in Côte-Rôtie, offering exceptional quality from a historic family domaine dating back to 1910—one of the first in the region to bottle its own production. Patrick took over in 1999 after the unexpected passing of his father, leaving behind a career in professional go-kart racing to carry on the family legacy. Today, he farms 6 hectares spread across 11 parcels in 8 lieux-dits, a complexity that adds dimension to his wines. La Giroflarie is the domaine’s top cuvée, blending 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier from vines planted in the 1960s on schist-rich slopes, all vinified traditionally with whole-cluster fermentation and aged in mostly used barrels. We visited Jasmin years ago, and his wines have remained among our favorite Côte-Rôties ever since. The 2023 vintage is superb, offering exceptional purity, energy, and structure with floral aromatics, savory mineral notes, and a deep core of dark fruit. It has the potential to be one of the greatest Giroflarie bottlings to date—and at this pricing, it’s an outstanding buy for serious Rhône collectors.

Jeb Dunnuck 93-95 Pts Tasted out of barrel, the 2023 Côte Rôtie La Giroflarie will be a beautiful wine. It shows the pure, vibrant style of the vintage in its darker fruits, violets, and peppery, spring flower-driven nuances. These carry to a medium to full-bodied Côte Rôtie with fine tannins, a beautifully layered, seamless mouthfeel, and outstanding length.<!--more-->Located in Ampuis, Domaine Jasmin remains one of the classic, traditional estates of Côte Rôtie. Now run by Patrick Jasmin, the domaine is best known for its elegant, seamless, and absolutely classic style, always emphasizing finesse over power. Farming is sustainable, and the wines are typically made with partial whole cluster fermentation and moderate oak influence. Production is small, and while the wines are not always submitted for annual tastings, I always love being able to visit this tiny cellar in the heart of Ampuis. The Côte Rôtie La Giroflarie comes from a mix of lieux-dits across the appellation and is blended with a touch of Viognier, while the new cuvée Olia represents a selection of the best barrels. The 2022s and 2023s are superb, showing the purity, balance, and classical elegance that define this historic domaine. Their Syrah La Chevalière is also well worth your time and money.
