As part of the revitalization of Cabernet Franc, Antoine Sanzay has been in the spotlight the last few vintages, and today we are able to offer a new Cuvee, Les Terres Rouges. Antoine took over his family Domaine in the late 90s when his grandfather had growing contracts where he would sell his grapes. However, Antoine had a grander vision and slowly canceled the contracts and got his vines back, which are located in some very prestigious sites, like Les Poyeux, which we have offered in the past. Antoine began making his own wine from his organically farmed vineyards. When we first featured him five years or so ago, he was an unknown producer but is now a key player and is proof that the Cabernet Francs of the region have much to offer at value pricing. Les Terres Rouges is a south-facing plot that is entirely planted to Cabernet Franc on marly chalk. Antoine vinifies the grapes 50% whole cluster with native yeasts with aging on concrete vats. An aromatically expressive wine with excellent intensity and concentration of fruit with mineral complexity from the chalky soils. Another homerun from Antoine Sanzay, is a Loire Red that should be on everyone's radar, and we currently have the only bottles available in the USA.
