One of the highlights of this incredibly small but extraordinary Domaine is the Bourgogne Rouge, which comes from old vine parcels spread throughout the cote de Nuits. From vines planted in '75, '78, and '82 located in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, and Gilly-les-Citeaux, which is right next to Chambolle. Digioia works the vineyards lute raisonee with no herbicides or insecticides and may transition to bio one day. Vinified separately, the Bourgogne Rouge sees a wild yeast fermentation with aging in 50% older oak and 50% stainless steel for 12 months before bottling. While this isn't entirely from vines in Chambolle, it is an impressive bottle showing the Bourgogne Rouge's elegant side. Usually a bit restrained, this should have a little more richness and power from the 2018 vintage while still showing wet stone minerality and herbal-floral complexity. With many of even the village wines becoming more unattractive in price, Bourgogne Rouge from the right producer can be a tremendous value, and that is the case here. We have some of the only bottles available in the world of this wine, and they will not last long!
