We sold nearly 100 cases of the 2015 rendition of this bottle, and we were able to score a bit of the 2018 at special pricing, which is a fantastic follow-up to '15. This Domaine is a hidden gem that is just starting to catch on, although it was founded in 1893 by Pierre Glantenay. The Domaine is now in its 4th generation run by Guillaume and Sarah Glantenay, where they farm 8 hectares of vines sustainably, making sure to make as little impact as possible in respect for the land. This duo does tons of work in the vineyards pruning, de-budding, green harvesting, and supporting biodiversity in the vineyards letting wild grasses, herbs, and flowers thrive between the vines, which is plowed to create a rich humus that supports the vines. During harvest, two strict selections are made once in the vineyard and then at the Domaine. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with about 30% whole cluster, aged in mostly older barrels for 10-18 months, racked using the traditional broquereau method, and bottled with gravity at the Domaine. The Broiullards is a fantastic bottle from this address from vines that are over 70 years old now and are planted to 10,000 vines per hectare which is very dense. Its a classicly made Premier Cru from Volnay and is a bottle not to miss for the Red Burgundy drinker especially at this special pricing.
Wine Enthusiast 94 points! "A touch of iron oxide enriches the red currant and cherry notes of this wine. The palate offers exquisitely elegant concentration, like silk that flashes highlights of cranberry and lowlights of tar, licorice and coffee. Prevasive freshness will guide this wine throughout its evolution. Drink by 2035."
