We have a limited amount of the Les Crayons from Nowack, a new cuvee sourced from the villages of Oeuilly in the Marne Valley, home to addresses like Tarlant. This Terroir is mainly limestone and clay, with the clay providing richness and retaining water for the vineyard, while limestone offers a balance of drainage and contributes to the overall mineral presence of these Champagnes. Flavien Nowack is an up-and-coming Champagne producer reinventing his family vineyards, converting to biodynamics and bottling plot by plot. We only expect great things in the future from Nowack, and these limited Champagnes are very special finds, and right now, we have the only bottles of the Les Crayons in the world!
We have a few more cuvees from Nowack we have yet to offer, including a few new cuvees. Domaine Nowack, led by Frederic and Flavien Nowack, and these two brothers, mainly Flavien, studied with producers like Emmanuel Brochet, transformed this estate into a small treasure. The Nowacks have been making Champagne for generations. Still, Flavien, in 2011, had a vision for a single parcel and single village wines made from his family holdings and has slowly, every year, started the process to convert one of his vineyards to Biodynamic to be used for his production. This is an incredible amount of work for such a small show, and most families would end up selling grapes, which is much more comfortable and makes more money. However, it is a labor of love, and because of the work, it has put Nowack on the map as a rising star of Grower Champagne and has been able to continue to offer many new cuvees.
The Nowack estate is located in Vandières, in the Marne valley, Southwest of Reims, and Northwest of Epernay, with 75% of the vines planted to Pinot Meunier and the remaining split between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, many of which have some impressive age. Vinification is completed in a variety of barrels and stainless steel tanks, and all the Champagnes are finished with a 1-2 gram dosage to amplify the innate mineral purity and unique terroir expression of these wines. We have great pricing on these top wines from Nowack and have two cuvees we have yet to offer, Les Ricey and Les Crayons (first vintage). We also have a late release of La Tulerie from the 2012 vintage! These are incredibly rare and small production, so don't miss out!
