The nature of our business has brought us in to contact almost every type of wine glass on the market. Using the proper glass makes all of the difference, and while many live by the idea that a glass is just a vessel, we have experienced first hand that that is not the case. A well-made glass accentuates the characteristics of a wine, and one could think of it as listening to music through your phone's speaker versus a nice pair of headphones. Yes, the song is the same, but with the headphones, the apparent parts are more focused, and the subtleties that might have gone unnoticed are more pronounced. Wine glasses act the same way, and the Gabriel-Glas All-In-One is precision designed with this in mind. After years of R&D in Austria, Gabriel-Glas has perfected the wine glass without a single detail left unnoticed.

At first glance, there are a few resemblances to the Zalto Universal, but upon closer inspection, the differences in quality become clear. There is slightly more bell at the bottom, and the walls gradually come in at the midpoint before flaring out at the top. The bulbed bottom acts as a decanter while the shape of the walls and the flared rim lets wine flow without much tilt and focuses the aromatics. Anyone who has sipped from a Riedel Burgundy Somm glass knows that the flared rim provides a cascading and direct delivery of wine when sipped, and this experience is similar to that without being clunky and oversized like some of the competition. There are two versions of this Glass The StandArt Series, which is machine-made, slightly thicker, and a tad heavier at 145 grams. Then there is the Gold Series, which is hand-blown, lighter, thinner, and more elegant, weighing in at 90 grams and is our preferred version for its precision, balance, and artistry. Both glasses have the same shape with a very flat supporting base, and unperceivable to the eye is an X shaped stem that feels round but helps keep the glass in place while swirling. Both glasses contain zero lead, unlike some high-end glasses that use lead in the manufacturing process. We have tried all the noble grape varietals in this glass, and in a side by side test using a varietal specific glass next to Gabriel-Glas, Gabriel-Glas was a decisive winner each time. The All-In-One also makes for an exquisite Champagne glass, especially for younger bottles. We received a shipment that just came in from Austria of both stems and are looking for their new homes. Gabriel-Glas is our favorite glass of all time, from quality and function to the simplicity of only needing one glass; if having the best drinking experience is essential, then this is a must-have.
