We tasted this sake many months ago among ten other great bottles in this price range, and this was one of our winners. After waiting months for our special order to arrive, we finally received our bottles straight from Japan this past week. Jinyu is a Sake brand developed by the Nabedana company over 300 years ago in the village of Narita in Chiba prefecture during the reign of one of Japan's most famous rulers, Tokugawa Ieyasu. Their original facility was used for 200 years before moving to a larger one in 1897, where production could be increased. 100 Poems is a tribute to Hyakunin Isshu, a collection of single Tanka poems written by 100 famous poets spanning 800 years and features the poetess Ono no Komachi on the label. 100 Poems is a Junmai Ginjo made from Komachi rice polished down to 55% and has beautiful, expressive aromatics of white flowers, melon, citrus, steamed rice, and minerals. The palate is focused with a very smooth texture that is rich in body yet has a weightlessness with the acidity that delivers excellent energy. Fresh with just a touch of sweetness, there is a lovely amount of purity here with a clean lingering finish that keeps you coming back for more. While this isn't overly complex, it is a fantastic value and is so easy and fun to drink; perfect with small starters, vegetables, or its own. As we mentioned, these just came, and we have low pricing on some of the only bottles in the USA right now, perfect for both experienced and novice Sake drinkers.
