Muller-Catoir is one of our favorite producers in Pfalz, founded in 1744 between the Rhine river and the Haardt mountains; Muller-Catoir makes an exceptional range of wines. Our top picks have always been their drier creations like the trocken or GG's, and The Bürgergarten Muskateller is Muller-Catoir's top dry wine in 2020. We've offered the Riesling from the special "Im Brumel" parcel in 2019, but in 2020 the Muskateller or Muscat steals the show at a lower price point. The Muskateller from Muller-Catoir is one of the best in the world, and while this vineyard is most noted for the Riesling, a portion of very fine Muskateller comes from here. The vines here are organic and grow on weathered yellow sandstone that has been used to produce wine for centuries. This could be one of the greatest Muskatellers ever made with its profoundly expressive aromatics and perpetual finish. It is not common to see this wine in the USA, and right now, we have the only bottles available. While we normally don't offer Muscat, this is a magical wine in 2020 and a fantastic choice for those that like precise, complex, and mineral-driven white wines. As good as Muskateller gets, there hasn't been a better vintage to get acquainted with, and at this price point, it's a no-brainer. The 2020 Bürgergarten Muskateller is one of the best and most unique old-world buys we've seen this year and is a bottle not to miss.
James Suckling 99 points! "Welcome to the most beautiful rose garden there ever was! But, wait a minute, there are also hibiscus, jasmine and all kind of other floral aromas hanging in the air. The concentration and complexity of this totally exceptional dry muscat is off the scale! Breathtaking freshness at the almost endless finish. A dry muscat miracle! Drink or hold."
