Domaine Nowack is led by Frederic and Flavian Nowack. These two brothers, mainly Flavien, who studied with producers like Emmanuel Brochet, have transformed this estate into a small treasure. The Nowack's have been making champagnes for generations. Still, Flavien, in 2011, had a vision for a single parcel and single village wines made from his family holdings and has slowly, every year started the process to convert one of his vineyards to Biodynamic to be used for his production later on. This is an incredible amount of work for such a small show, and most families would end up selling grapes, which is much more comfortable and makes more money. However, it is a labor a love, and the extra effort has put Nowack on the map. The estate is located in Vandières, which is in the Marne valley, Southwest of Reims, and Northwest of Epernay, with 75% of the vines planted to Pinot Meunier and the remaining split between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Today we are offering the SA, which is a nonvintage Cuvee with a base of 2020 with 40% reserve wine from 2012-2019. The fruit is all sourced within the Village of Vandières from different parcels that are all biodynamically farmed, designed to give a snapshot of the village's terroir. A Blend of 60% Pinot Meunier and 40% Chardonnay fermented with wild yeasts in a combination of stainless steel tank and oak barrels, using grape must for the secondary fermentation in the bottle, resulting in Champagne that isn't as effervescent, but more serious, similar to the style of Francis Boulard. The dosage here is only 1.5 g/l, which allows for the purest expression, and is a Champagne with tremendous energy and terroir transparency with only 2,500 bottles produced. The SA is the best way to get acquainted with Nowack and is another fantastic new Champagne for many of our grower-Champagne fans to get familiar with and are exciting representations of this Marne Terroir.
