Arnaud Margaine is a small grower with only 6.5 hectares of vines, mainly in Villers-Marmery, one of the few Montage de Reims sites that produce Chardonnay. Margaine works with a clone of Chardonnay that is unique to Villers-Marmery and is not found anywhere else. Arnaud likes to experiment, and the blend for this Cuvee is a perfect example with 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir from the following vintages: 40% 2017, 26% 2016, 8% 2014, 26% 2012 & 2011. This is completely vinified in stainless with a partial malolactic fermentation to preserve the fruit's freshness and ages on the lees for 24 months, seeing a dosage around 8 g/l. Fresh Orchard fruit, with brioche, Chalky minerality, and deceptively dry with very fine bubbles, this is a beautiful bottle to start a meal, especially when paired with lighter seafood or shellfish, and is a top value for small bottle Champagne. These just arrived earlier this week and also acquired a nice score from Galloni along the way.
Antonio Galloni 93 points! "The NV Brut Le Brut is another absolutely compelling wine in this range. Le Brut is 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir, based on 2017 with 60% reserve wines from 2016-2011. What stands out most, though, is the wine's total translucence and finesse. Citrus, floral and spice nuances seem to hover on the palate. The 8 grams of dosage is not at all evident. This is such a pretty and harmonious wine. Disgorged: October, 2019"
