Godme was one of the first Growers we ever tasted with and started offering many years ago. Established in the 1930s, the 11 hectares were split between Sabine and her brother Hugh Godme, whom many of us know from his great Rose. Sabine and her husband Jean Marie Guillaume head their estate with vines mostly located in the grand cru villages of Verzy and Verzenay, averaging 30 years old. Farming is entirely sustainable, with all the Champagnes seeing some barrel fermentation. The Blanc de Noir is 100% Pinot Noir from the villages of Verzy and Verzenay and is based on the 2015 vintage with 30% reserve wine, aging on the lees for four years, and seeing a dosage of 7 grams. Great expression with an excellent dynamic between explosive red fruit, deep chalky minerality, and an outstanding balance between richness and acidity. We often note that some Champagnes are rare, and that is the truth here with an annual production of only 1,000 bottles and no exposure. This is one of our top buys for Champagne and the only bottles available in the USA.
Wine Enthusiast (Roger Voss) 93 points! "A blend across four vintages aged for four years on the lees, has produced a Champagne that is rich, densely textured and with vibrant, green-apple and pear flavors that are shot through with acidity. The wine could age a little further in bottle, so drink from 2021."
