As many grower Champagne fanatics are aware, Henri Goutorbe is an excellent producer from the village of Ay in the Marne Valley that got their start running a vine nursery long ago. Goutorbe makes fabulous Champagnes at this level, and many of our clients have experienced the excellent price-quality of their lineup. The Rose was one of our best selling of all time and is where many of us got our start. Years ago, we tried some of their great library releases from the 70s and 80s that were still alive and showed how serious an address Goutorbe is. Today we are offering the Cuvee Prestige, something we have only offered once before. This premier cru Cuvee shows off Pinot Noir's beauty from Ay, with it being 70% of the blend while the remaining 25% belongs to Chardonnay from Bisseuil and 5% Pinot Meunier. The Cuvee Prestige sees 100% stainless steel fermentation, aging for 48 months and, in this case, is based on 2016 vintage with 25% reserve wine added. 2016 proved to be a challenging growing season, and because yields were down, this is a touch more concentrated. It is expressive and forward Champagne perfect for this small format showing lovely fruit, leesy complexity, great energy, and enough minerality to give it some backbone. The Cuvee Prestige is a great bottle at this low pricing and the perfect solution for when a splash of bubbles is needed.
