We were able to get a few more cases of this astonishing Iteration of the Grand Cuvee, which is easily one of the best of all time from Laurent-Perrier. This is one of the most stand-out Champagnes they have produced and is a stunning addition to the series. One of the not-to-miss Champagnes we still have low pricing on these bottles, far below the current going rate. Iteration 25 is one of the Best Buys for Tete de Cuvee Champagne right now.
The new release of Laurent-Perriers' massively successful Grand Siecle Iteration Series, 25, is the next step of this heroic Cuvee. While we love our vintage Champagne, the French believe Champagnes should be a combination of several vintages that make a more complete and consistent bottle which is the basis for the Grand Siecle 25. Years ago, when I met Remi Krug and called his Grand Cuvee non-vintage, he abruptly corrected me and said it's a multi-vintage Champagne. He told me the European countries like multi-vintage Champagnes where the US market only wants vintage Champagne from the best vintages. This is still likely true today for the higher-end Champagnes, but the multi-vintage Champagnes have become more prevalent in the USA over the years. Laurent-Perrier's Tete de Cuvee has always been a multi-vintage bottling, and the Iteration 25 Grand Cuvee is quite stunning. A blend of 60% Chardonnay from the Grand Cru villages of Mesnil‑sur‑Oger, Oger, Cramant, Avize and 40% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru villages of Ambonnay, Bouzy, Tours‑sur‑Marne, Mailly, and Verzy. We are very excited about the 25th Iteration because the base is the excellent 2008 vintage which accounts for 65% of the Champagne, blended with reserve juice from 2007 (25%) and 2006 (10%) vintages. This is a Champagne of elegance and depth with incredible underlying power, precision, and impeccable balance, which is driven by the excellence of the 2008 vintage. The 25th is not one to miss and is in contention for the best Iteration yet of the Grand Siecle of all time.
Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 96+ points! "Laurent-Perrier's imminently released NV Brut Grand Siècle #25 is showing beautifully, unwinding in the glass with an incipiently complex bouquet of pear, crisp stone fruit and mandarin mingled with hints of smoke, buttered toast and dried white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, layered and textural, with a fleshy core of fruit, terrific concentration and a racy spine of acidity, it's a deep, comparatively structured wine that will evolve beautifully in the cellar. As I've written before, this iteration is a blend of the 2008, 2007 and 2006 vintages, with 2008 lending #25 its depth and structure, 2007 contributing additional cut and 2006 additional richness. While the #25 exemplifies the seamless charm of this bottling, it's also one of the best propositions for long-term cellaring among recent renditions of Grand Siècle, and it will really reward time on cork."
Antonio Galloni (Vinous) 96 points! "The NV Brut Grande Cuvée Grand Siècle No. 25 (Magnum) is a Champagne of striking nuance and class. Elegant and restrained in feel, the No.25 is remarkably polished from start to finish. Lemon confit, white flowers, white pepper and citrus oil give the No. 25 brilliant aromatic top notes that add to its chiseled personality. It can be enjoyed now because of its superb balance, or aged for two decades. The blend of vintages - 2008 (60%), 2007 (20%), 2006 (20%) - is especially strong. Disgorged May 27, 2019."
