. One of the most popular biodynamic champagne producers right now, a 250year family tradition carried in to the modern age by wine maker Sebastien Mouzon. The wines are expressive, transparent, and capture the very soul of the Verzy and Montagne de Reims terroir. Their Champagne L’Atavique is 65% Pinot Noir 35% Chardonnay with a dosage of 3 g/l. This Champagne has wonderful focus, energy, and cut. If you like great vineyard driven bubbles this bottle is for you. Pour pricing is great, and it has a nice review from John Gilman below!
John Gilman 92 pts! The new release of Mouzon-Leroux “l’Atavique” non-vintage Extra Brut is from the base year of 2013 and was finished off with a dosage of three grams per liter. It was disgorged in May of 2017 and is its customary blend of sixty-five percent pinot noir and thirty-five percent chardonnay. The wine offers up a fine, youthful nose of white peach, apple, steely minerality, bread dough and a gently smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with an excellent core of fruit, very refined mousse, snappy acids and excellent length and grip on the focused and very promising finish. This is certainly approachable today, but it is still a pupp y and will drink with more generosity with two or three years in the cellar. Fine juice. (Drink between 2018-2035)
