Part of the Legras Family legacy in Chouilly, Pierre Legras, was a contemporary of Dom Perignon in the 17th century. Now in their 11th generation of family winemaking, Vincent Legras holds one of Chouillys oldest family estates. Much like RL Legras, Pierre Legras is a master with Chardonnay. Vincent works the vineyards organically and sustainably and has done so since starting in 2002. The Coste Beert is an emblematic Blanc de Blancs from Pierre Legras, capturing the expression of Chouilly in one little bottle. The base vintage here is 2012, with 30% reserve wine and six years of aging on the lees. Coste Beert is a very fine knit Champagne that shows a floral and mineral nose with brioche, fresh citrus, and almonds while being very elegant and precise on the palate. This is an incredible value for Champagne, Grand cru Blanc de Blancs, from a great village, with extended aging on the lees for only 21 dollars. It's a no brainer and an excellent format for a few glasses before dinner without the pressure of finishing a whole bottle.
