$49.99
NV Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Essentiel Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut (2013 Base)
A newer cuvee from Piper-Heidsieck, we have fantastic pricing on this excellent Blanc de Blancs. With roots dating back to 1785, Piper-Heidsieck has consistently upheld its reputation for crafting exceptional sparkling wines. The Champagne Essentiel Blanc de Blancs stands as a testament to their commitment to quality and tradition. Produced exclusively from Chardonnay grapes, this cuvée embodies precision and purity, reflecting the distinct character of the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and Sézannais.
With a limited dosage of 5 grams per liter, the Extra Brut classification ensures a dry and crisp profile while letting more of the natural expression of the Chardonnay and minerality come through. This lot is based on the 2013 vintage, which is excellent for Chardonnay and one of the best examples of this Cuvee. This was aged for five years on the lees, fostering complexity, depth, and richness.
Essentiel Blanc de Blancs reveals floral notes, citrus undertones, and a subtle minerality. The palate is treated to a symphony of flavors, ranging from crisp green apples to delicate white flowers, all underscored by a distinctive chalky minerality.
The result is a Champagne with a fine and persistent effervescence and a bright acidity that invigorates the palate. This Champagne pays homage to Piper-Heidsieck's rich heritage and exemplifies their mastery in creating refined and expressive Blanc de Blancs while being a top value for the category.

Decanter 94 points! "This 100% Chardonnay uses base wine from the excellent 2013 vintage, which is generally a better vintage for Chardonnay than 2012, with 35% reserve wines added. It has a lovely green-tinged hue with exceptional poise and depth - real complexities here from the late-picked fruit, harvested into October. It has enough nuance for gastronomy, especially roast turbot with cèpes but also sole. Still under-the-radar enough to be a bargain."
