We have a small reload of this world-class Sauvignon Blanc after quickly selling out earlier last month. A Bottle that punches above its weight class, this is as good as anything in Europe you can find for the money. The Temet wines are rare in the USA, and we have some of the only bottles available right now at great pricing.
This is our Second offer from this gem that lies on the border of Austria and Slovenia with a knack for stunning Sauvignon Blanc. The Shell-limestone soils here are unbelievably well suited to Sauvignon Blanc, and for 60 years, the Tement family has been making some of the best white wines you've probably never heard about. Grassnitzberg is a prized single vineyard site on a mountain basin characterized by its sandy-Loam Coralline-Limestone soils left over from the paratethys ocean. Though it is considered a premier cru site, it is of grand cru quality. Its cold location makes for exquisite wines with a trademark complexity of minerals, wild herbs, and a salty finish. These wines' complexity, structure, and finesse are on par with the best examples from the Loire and Bordeaux, which can put on some serious age in the cellar. It is also important to note that after years of practicing organic farming, Tement finally became certified in 2018. While a warm vintage, the wines here found balance due to extensive vineyard work resulting in beautifully expressive with acid levels similar to '17. A beautiful effort; this is a unique wine that needs to be tried, and we have the only bottles in the USA right now!
Wine Enthusiast (Anne Krebhiel) 98 points! "Smoke, nettle and angelica stem notions meet ripe Mirabelle on the still shy nose. The palate also hase this delicious whiff of smoke, surrounding a still shy core and an essentially creamy, smooth and utterly fresh body. The combination of fresh lime peel, green herb and creaminess is utterly compelling. Drink by 2040."
Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt) 94 points! "Quite reductive and lean on the pure and flinty nose, the spicy, leafy and coolish 2018 Ried Grassnitzberg Sauvignon Blanc displays greenish and reddish rather than yellow fruit aromas. Dense and tensioned on the palate, this is an explosive, firm and tannic Grassnitzberg with great power and terroir expression. This coolish, fresh and tensioned as well as concentrated yet by no means just lean or even small-bore Sauvignon is classified as "1 STK" premier cru, but it is as complex as a grand cru from a cooler site. Exciting. 13% alcohol. Tasted in October 2020."
