2016 Château Puy-Blanquet

$29.99
2016 Château Puy-Blanquet
We sold a lot of the 2018 version, and we are happy to report that we were able to source an older vintage of this Bordeaux, the 2016 vintage. This is an incredible Bordeaux for the money that dates back to the 19th century. It received its first gold medal at the 1889 Paris Exposition. Today, the Jacquet family owns this estate, and the vineyards and cellar are managed by Pierre Meunier, who was trained by Jean-Pierre Moueix (from Chateau Petrus fame). Now, his son Christian Moueix is in charge of global distribution for Chateau Puy-Blanquet. The Chateau Puy-Blanquet vineyard encompasses about fifty acres of vineyards that are farmed sustainably. They diligently work in the vineyard to obtain optimal physiological maturity, employing green harvesting, canopy management, and strict tirage before fermentation. This wine is 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet France, aged 12 months in French oak, with only a tiny portion new. The pedigree of this wine is quite captivating for this price point and delivers incredible balance and seamless precision. One of the best sub $30 Bordeaux we have tasted all year, and it has the structure to age a decade or more if you can keep your hands off of it!

Vinous (Antonio Galloni) 92 pts! The 2016 Puy-Blanquet is a gorgeous, classically built Saint-Émilion that emphasizes freshness and purity. Deceptively medium in body, the 2016 is supple, deep and incredibly inviting. Sweet tobacco, cedar, leather and licorice add lovely aromatic top notes. Pliant and inviting, this incredibly delicious yet understated Saint-Émilion will be hard to resist in its youth. It is also one of the undisputed Sleeper gems of the vintage. Don't miss it. (Drink between 2021 - 2036)

James Suckling 92 pts! Focused fruit, such as raspberries and blackberries with chalk and flowers. Full body, firm and chewy tannins and a long and defined finish. Quite muscular. Try after 2021.
