We have a late release of the 2020 Domaine Vincent and Sophie Morey Santenay 1er Cru Passetemps, a focused, classically styled Pinot Noir from older vines on stony clay-limestone mid-slope soils just above the village, from a site that naturally delivers excellent fruit and mineral drive. Hand-picked fruit is mostly destemmed and given a short cold soak before a gentle fermentation with native yeasts, then aged about 12 to 15 months in French oak with a restrained share of new barrels to keep the terroir front and center. The warm, low-yielding 2020 season brought depth without heaviness, showing red and black cherry, raspberry, rose, and a subtle tea and spice note, with an impressive finish. This is drinking very well now, but still has some room to age for another 5 to 10 years. It's a very smart premier cru buy for clients looking for a lovely red Burgundy to drink now without a big pricetag.
