We have an excellent buy for Rosé Champagne in a half-bottle from Margaine today. This grower rosé is produced in the Montagne de Reims village of Villers-Marmery, where the Margaine family has farmed just under 7 hectares of Premier Cru vineyards since 1920. Unusually for this part of Champagne, Chardonnay dominates plantings here, and this rosé reflects that with a base of roughly 75% Chardonnay and 25% Pinot Noir, including 6–10% still red wine for color and structure. Fourth-generation winemaker Arnaud Margaine primarily vinifies in stainless steel, with partial malolactic fermentation, aiming for precision and freshness, and the base wine is aged on lees for 24 to 36 months before disgorgement. Multiple vintages are blended for consistency, with reserve wines comprising a significant portion of the cuvée. The result is a vibrant, mineral-driven rosé Champagne with lifted red berry fruit, blood orange, and chalky tension—offering serious depth while remaining refined and highly drinkable. Ideal for those seeking an elegant, terroir-driven alternative to larger house rosés at a great price, in a fun format perfect for just a few glasses.
Vinous (Antonio Galloni) 92 pts! The NV Brut Le Rosé exudes class from the very first taste. Generous and inviting, the Rosé is a total charmer. Cranberry, orange peel, white pepper and kirsch are pushed forward. The blend is 76% Chardonnay and 24% Pinot Noir, with 8% still red Pinot. Not surprisingly, Pinot very much drives the balance. Superb. Dosage is 9 grams per liter. Disgorged: March 2024. (Drink between 2024 - 2028)
