N.V. De Sousa et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée des Caudalies Blanc de Blancs

$109.99
N.V. De Sousa et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée des Caudalies Blanc de Blancs
We had some great champagne this trip, but nothing quite impressed us like this bottle of De Sousa. We had a lovely local restaurant in Beaune a few days back. De Sousa is an excellent grower of Champagne that flies under the radar. It is very rare in the United States and has little to no importation. We had a bottle of this at a Japanese restaurant, Bissoh in Beaune (highly recommended we go here every time we are in town, and is often frequented by vignerons), earlier this week with sushi alongside a bottle of Egly-Ouriet, and it blew me away how good it was. For me, this is grower Champagne at its best, with the incredible depth, complexity, balance, and terroir expression you don't get from some of the bigger names. This is not a super effervescent Champagne and plays more to the vinous side, and it's not too out of place to be called a Batard Montrachet with bubbles because of the incredible depth and palate staining finish. The dosage is only 3g/l, which is perfect given the incredibly mature fruit that they harvest. It is the best Champagne of the trip so far, and my rating is 95 pts, and at only $69.99, it's a spectacular buy. We tasted many champagnes on this trip that were three times more expensive, and this bested most of them. A must-buy for the Blanc de Blanc lover, and currently, these are the only US bottles available, and they get our highest recommendation!
