2022 Domaine Buisson-Battault Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

$129.99
2022 Domaine Buisson-Battault Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières

Buisson-Battault remains one of the great insider addresses in Meursault, and the 2022 Genevrières is a terrific example of the purity, tension and mineral drive that have made François Buisson’s wines increasingly sought after. The domaine farms just 0.63 hectares in Genevrières-Dessus, with Chardonnay planted in 1950, 1988 and 1996 on classic clay-limestone soils, giving the wine some excellent old-vine concentration. The fruit is harvested by hand, aged for 12 months in barrel with only around 20% new oak, then moved to tank with its fine lees for another six months, with no bâtonnage, allowing the wine to gain texture without sacrificing freshness or vineyard expression. The excellent 2022 vintage gives the Genevrières beautiful depth and generosity, with white peach, ripe citrus and delicate white flowers layered with flint and crushed stone, while a silky, concentrated palate remains remarkably light on its feet. There is impressive length here, but it is the wine’s salinity and precision that really stand out, finishing clean, mineral and beautifully focused. Genevrières is often considered one of Meursault’s most elegant Premier Crus, and Buisson-Battault’s version delivers that refinement while remaining a tremendous value compared with many of the more famous domaines farming this exceptional site.

Vinous (Neal Martin) 93 pts! The 2022 Meursault Les Genevrières 1er Cru is more muted on the nose compared to its peers despite rigorous aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with touches of peppermint infusing the citrus fruit, though it initially does not articulate the terroir with the clarity or complexity of its peers. That actually develops with time in the glass, prompting me to raise my score. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2026 - 2040)
