2023 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes

$89.99
2023 Jean-Luc & Eric Burguet Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes

Alain Burguet’s Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites is a bottle we offer almost every vintage, and over the years, it has become one of the best insider buys in red Burgundy. Alain Burguet was one of the few Burgundy producers who did not inherit his vines, building the domaine from the ground up in the 1960s and working organically from the beginning, long before it became common in the region. Today, the domaine covers 9.5 hectares with excellent holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin and is now run by Alain’s sons, Jean-Luc and Eric, who continue the work that put the Burguet name on the map. Mes Favorites has been the gem of this address since inception, coming from 18 different old-vine parcels planted between 1910 and 1970, which is a key factor in the quality of this cuvee. Though technically a village wine, Mes Favorites often reaches premier cru quality, with old-vine density, Gevrey structure, dark red fruit, earth, spice, and a mineral backbone that make it far more serious than the designation suggests. The 2023 vintage adds generous fruit, aromatic lift, and supple texture while still keeping the freshness and transparency that define the domaine. This remains one of the best buys in Burgundy, and we have excellent pricing on this one today!

John Gilman 92+ points! "Since the first vintage of this wine that I tasted, which hailed from the 1990 vintage, the Mes Favorites bottling has always been a Gevrey-Chambertin that displays broad shoulders and plenty of muscle. In some recent “solar” vintages, the wine can get a bit too powerful for my old school palate, but the 2023 is right in its sweet spot and a ringing success this year. The wine’s aromatic constellation is deep, black fruity and classy, offering up scents of cassis, black cherries, espresso, grilled meats, a fine base of dark soil, cedary oak and plenty of upper register smokiness. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, tangy and complex, with a beautiful sappy core of fruit, ripe, buried tannins, excellent focus and grip and a long, poised and impeccably balanced finish. Impressive juice! "
