The 1995 Dalla Valle Maya comes from the formative period that established this tiny Oakville estate as one of Napa Valley’s original cult producers. Gustav and Naoko Dalla Valle founded the estate in 1986 on the eastern hillsides of Oakville, and in 1987 they planted a five-acre Cabernet Sauvignon parcel named for their newborn daughter, Maya; beginning in 1990, fruit from that block was blended with the estate’s exceptional Cabernet Franc to create the wine that would become Dalla Valle’s flagship. The 1995 is the classic early Maya blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Cabernet Franc, an unusually high proportion of Franc for Napa at the time and a major reason for the wine’s extraordinary perfume and individuality. It also comes from the end of the Heidi Barrett era at Dalla Valle, an important chapter that produced some of the estate’s most legendary early wines. Now more than 30 years from vintage, the 1995 has evolved beautifully, with cassis, blackberry and dark cherry giving way to violet, sweet tobacco, cedar, incense, leather and dried flowers, while retaining the depth and firm structure that have always defined Maya. These bottles are in perfect condition and were purchased on release, making this a rare opportunity to experience one of the defining Napa wines of the 1990s from the period when Dalla Valle was first becoming one of Napa's most coveted estates.
