Clearly, the attention to detail was brought over from Bordeaux to South Africa at the hands of May de Lencquesing, former owner of Pichon Lalande. These are our last bottles of this one, and it is a fantastic value not to miss.
This is an incredible bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, and due to the favorable exchange rate with South Africa, it's an absolute steal for the money. It comprises 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the balance being Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot. In 2003, at the age of 78, May de Lencquesaing, then owner of the Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, purchased the estate. As many may know, May de Lencquesing sold Pichon Lalande in 2010 and moved to South Africa to devote all her time to the Glenelly Estate. Luke O'Cuinneagain, the talented wine-maker at the Glenelly Estate, has worked at Chateau Fieuzel and Chateau Angeleus in Bordeaux as well as Screaming Eagle in Napa Valley making. The vineyard for this wine is a small amphitheater planted in 2003 after May de Lencquesaing purchased the estate. The vines have been farmed organically since inception, and the natural yield on this site is pretty low. This wine sees about twenty-four months in new French oak and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. The aromas of cassis, liquid minerals, spice, and earth jump from the glass. The palate is dense and concentrated, but the wine has terrific acidity that gives it perfect balance with a kaleidoscope finish. This is an absolute must-buy for the lover of Bordeaux and New World Cabernet Sauvignon, and it's the best Cabernet-based wine we have tried this year for under $100. Don't miss this one; it is an incredible bottle for the money made by some very qualified people!

Right up there with the best Stellenbosch Bordeaux-style blends from the exceptional 2017 vintage, this is a distinguished, patrician wine where everything is in place: tannins, acidity, oak and fruit concentration. Marrying Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has iodine and mint aromas, red berry and cassis flavours, subtle vanilla spice and impressive underlying structure. Wine Advocate 94 pts! "The 2017 Lady May is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with splashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The nose opens with a juicy and generously structured frame with oak essences and spiced black fruit elements. Medium to full-bodied, the palate provides sweet oak flavors with a firm tannic edge before melting away to reveal a fine mineral tension and bright acidity. This beauty has plenty of life left in it and will have no problem aging for a couple more decades. Bravo!
Neal Martin 93 pts! The 2017 Lady May has more presence on the nose than the preceding vintage, and more complexity and delineation. The floral element is toned down compared to the 2016. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, tarry black fruit laced with truffle and a pinch of white pepper, leading to a harmonious and quite persistent finish. This is an excellent Lady May that should drink well for up to 15 years. (Drink between 2022 - 2038)"

Generous and complex, with ripe dark fruit on offer and a lingering finish. A blend of 90% cabernet sauvignon, 6% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot. Sustainable. Drink or hold."
