2018 A. Margaine Champagne Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut

$69.99
2018 A. Margaine Champagne Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut

Margaine's 2018 Champagne Rosé de Saignée comes from the family's small 6.5 ha, multi-generation estate in the Premier Cru village of Villers-Marmery (Montagne de Reims), a chalk-rich slope the Margaines have farmed since the 1920s and which Arnaud Margaine has led since the late 1980s. Winemaking is precise with a focus on mineral-driven character starting with hand-harvested Pinot Noir, briefly macerated and bled (saignée) for color and structure, then blended with a Chardonnay base seeing a cool fermentation in stainless steel, partial malolactic depending on lot, and an extended lees aging before an Extra Brut-level dosage to preserve cut. 2018 was a warm, early harvest that delivered ripe, clean fruit and generous phenolic maturity—excellent for saignée rosé with depth and definition. Expect vivid strawberry, pomegranate, blood orange, and rose petal over a chalk-saline core, a vinous mid-palate, fine mousse, and a long, dry finish with pepper-tinged notes. It's a serious, food-ready rosé that will drink beautifully now and over the next 5–7 years, and we have excellent low pricing on some of the only bottles currently available.

Antonio Galloni 94 pts! The NV Extra Brut Rosé de Saignée is a wild, exotic wine. Pinot Noir takes the lead, and that comes through in the wine's textural depth and flavor profile. Wild red cherry, game, licorice, tobacco, incense, dried flowers and blood orange are beautifully amplified. This heady, resonant Rosé is very much a wine for the dinner table. I loved it. Dosage is 4.5 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 2023. (Drink between 2024 - 2018)
