The 2018 Cuis Special Club Champagne is one of the best that we have tasted from this house, and after trying another bottle last night, we can confirm it's a sensational example of the Special Club style here. The Special Club lineup is where the Champagnes from Gimonnet start to get very serious and comprises some of the oldest vines that Gimonnet has. A club created in 1971, Gimmonet has made a few different special club cuvees over the years, like Ogier and Chouilly, which show the special club style from a single village, but the 'Cuis 1er' is the newest cuvee from Gimmonet, making its debut in the 2018 vintage. Cuis is Gimonnets hometown, with 50% of their vines located in the village, coming specifically from two old Lieu dits, Croix-Blanche and Les Roualles, covering 4.35 hectares and planted just behind their house. Gimonnet has been making a nonvintage cuvee from these vines for 100 years, and it's the first time they have made a premium vintage cuvee from this fruit. 100% Chardonnay, this is an outstanding bottle of Champagne in the making, showing Incredible minerality, fresh apples, bread dough, and intriguing soil tones. The palate is powerful and deep, with tons of dry extract and salinity, leaving fresh apple notes lingering on the palate for minutes. This is a stunning Special Club that is not to be missed, and we have low pricing today on these last bottles!
Jeb Dunnuck 94 points! "A solid Blanc De Blancs from Gimonnet, the 2018 Champagne 1er Cru Cuis Special Club Extra Brut pours a silver straw hue and is aromatic of crushed stones, fresh flowers, green pear, tarragon, and lime. Medium-bodied, it’s elegant and finessed, with a delicate mouthfeel and a refreshing feel on the palate, with clean lift. Attractive and fresh, it is zesty but approachable. Drink 2023-2030. (Drink between 2023-2030)"
