2022 Weingut Robert Weil Kiedricher Turmberg Riesling trocken

$39.99
2022 Weingut Robert Weil Kiedricher Turmberg Riesling trocken
One of the top producers in the Rheingau, Robert Weil, purchased vineyards and founded his winery in 1875 after fighting in the Franco-Prussian war. In the 4th generation of winemaking, Wilhelm Weil heads this prestigious estate continuing the standard of quality that his ancestors set in place. Fastidious attention to detail in the vineyards controlling yields, and hand sorting, along with a delicate and minimalist approach in the cellar, make these some of the most exciting and pure wines in Germany. 2022 was an excellent year for the Rheingau, and Weil produced some fantastic wines well suited for dry Rieslings.
Weil bottles a few dry Rieslings from Kiedrich, with Turmberg being one of the best performers this vintage. This dramatic 60% incline vineyard is comprised of stony and fragmented phyllite soils. It is one of the more powerful wines of the range, but even in this intense and concentrated vintage, it still shows fantastic elegance and minerality. 2022 is one of the best examples of this wine ever from Weil, and could out-drink the score below, seeing that it was based on a cask sample. One for the history books; this is going to be a very age-worthy bottle and should be on par with the GGs here. A rare find, we have the only bottles of this new vintage available in the USA right now, and it's going to be one of the top buys of the vintage.

Wine Advocate (Stephan Reinhardt) 93+ points! "Tasted as a sample, the 2022 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken opens with a clear, intense and concentrated, slightly smoky yet still discreet and elegant nose of white fruits and crushed, saline stones. Pure and fresh yet also rich and intense on the palate, this is a full-bodied, very elegant, saline and crystalline Turmberg with a firm structure and a very long, intense, saline, savory and grippy finish. The wine reveals remarkable purity and tension yet is still a little bitter on the tight and citric finish. Promising. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023 (AP 29 23)."
