I just finished my tasting at Jose Michel today and was told this will be the last of the Hommage Cuvee du Pere Houdart, which is an incredible bottle of Champagne. This is because there is not enough older reserve wine to create the blend anymore. The reserve wine for this cuvee is added in the form of bottles that have been aging in the Jose cellars and are opened and added to a tank before blending with the younger vintages. 2019 is the base and makes up 60% of the blend, with the balance being 1971, 1975, 1976, 1986, 1984, 1995, 2005, and 2010. The cepages is 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier, and 20% Chardonnay. This is a rare and unique Champagne because of the blending of the older vintages, so it has a lovely secondary character yet a vibrant backbone from the younger vintages disgorged with a low 4-gram dosage. This is a gorgeous bottle, and if this champagne were coming from one of the big houses, it would cost hundreds of dollars. Grab some while you can; we just bought the last sixty bottles from the Domaine.
