2020 Boniperti Fara Barton

$32.99
2020 Boniperti Fara Barton
The 2020 Fara Barton is the top wine produced by the Boniperti winery, a family-owned estate deeply rooted in Alto Piedmonte. Founded on principles of meticulous vineyard management and a commitment to sustainable agriculture, the estate has been in the Boniperti family for generations, with current operations led by Vigneron Giulio Boniperti. The Boniperti's vineyard, located in the Fara appellation, is the southernmost area of Alto Piedmonte, about a 2-hour drive from Barolo. This wine comes from a one-hectare vineyard planted in 2007, mostly dedicated to Nebbiolo (70%) but blended with Vespolina (30%), which is traditional in this part of Piedmont. Macerated on the skins for about three weeks, then aged on the traditional larger barrels. The winemaking style of Boniperti emphasizes minimal intervention, aiming to showcase the grapes' natural characteristics and the Fara terroir's distinctive minerality, seeking for the wines to tell a story of their origin. The 2020 vintage, characterized by its balanced, wet, warm climatic conditions, allowed for optimal ripening of the grapes, leading to wines with excellent structure, aromatic complexity, and aging potential. The result is supple, clean, and rich with aromas and flavors of red fruits, sandalwood, and baking spices with beautiful elegance from this higher elevation and slightly cooler part of Piedmont. If you enjoy the wines of Gattinara, this sings a similar tune but with a slightly different expression while still being true to Piedmont at its core, and it can be enjoyed now.

Antonio Galloni 94 points! "The 2020 Fara Barton, Boniperti's top wine, is terrific. Dark and layered, the 2020 offers up tons of Nebbiolo character. Macerated dark cherry, menthol, licorice, spice and a host of balsamic inflections build in the glass. The 2020 spent 30 days on the skins and matured for 14 months in 22HL casks. It's a gorgeous, classy, elegant wine that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring."
