$39.99
2019 Tiefenbrunner Müller-Thurgau Alto Adige - Südtirol Feldmarschall von Fenner
We have a unique one here today from the high-elevation vineyards of Alto Adige. The 2019 Feldmarschall von Fenner is a fantastic wine made by Tiefenbrunner, an esteemed winery situated in the heart of South Tyrol, Italy. Founded in 1848, Tiefenbrunner has a long-standing winemaking heritage, operating from the historic Castel Turmhof estate, which dates back to the 13th century. Feldmarschall von Fenner comes from their Fennberg vineyard, planted on a high plateau located at 3,300 feet, making it one of the world's highest vineyards. This saw its first vintage in 1974 and is one of the prized vineyards of the family with incredible soils of red silt and loam, white and red marble, with granite and porphyry. The combination of high altitude and complex soils has a profound effect on the profile of the wine, influencing its aromatics and minerality. The vineyard is planted to Muller-Thurgau, a cross between Riesling and Madeleine Royal hybrid created by Herman Muller of Swiss Canton Thurgau in 1882. The variety is known for its delicate floral and fruity notes, and Tiefenbrunner makes one of the best examples in the world, which is so complex and nuanced. Minimal intervention and sustainable viticulture allow this high-altitude terroir to shine through. This is a rare find in the US and is a stunning, world-class white wine worth checking out at this low pricing. Use the buy now button to read the reviews from Vinous and Suckling!

Vinous (Eric Guado) 94+ points! "It’s almost impossible to pull away from the 2019 Müller-Thurgau Feldmarschall von Fenner, as an enticing blend of lemon oils and tangerine give way to candied ginger, flint and crushed apples. Its textures are otherworldly, seeming almost creamy yet weightless and soothing to all that they touch. Exotic melon, lime zests, minerals and inner floral tones resonate throughout, all offset by a balanced inner sweetness, as the 2019 finishes lightly structured and remarkably long. As amazing as this is today, it will only get better through cellaring. The Feldmarschall von Fenner is a varietal Müller-Thurgau from thirty-year-old vines that grow at 1100 meters above sea level. This is not to be missed. (Drink between 2023-2030)"

James Suckling 93 points! "The intensely flinty nose pulls you into this remarkably concentrated muller thurgau that breaks the mold for this humble grape. The combination of textural complexity on the mid-palate (with some creaminess) and a long, mineral finish makes this a unique wine. Grown at an altitude of 1,000 meters in the Italian Alps. Drink or hold. Screw cap."
