We have a few cases of 1985 Domaine Huet Vouvray Moelleux Clos du Bourg, which was just released ex-domaine, and are in perfect condition. 1985 is a standout example from Huet, who remains the top producer in Vouvray. Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet and continued by his son Gaston, the domaine helped define the age-worthy potential of Chenin Blanc from Vouvray. Clos du Bourg, acquired in 1953, is Huet’s most esteemed site—an ancient 6-hectare walled vineyard on limestone with a thin topsoil of clay and flint, delivering powerful, structured wines. The 1985 vintage was warm and favorable, producing richly concentrated fruit with excellent botrytis development, ideal for Moelleux. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in large old oak demi-muids, this wine was crafted for long-term aging. Today, it shows complex notes of quince, honeycomb, dried apricot, and lanolin with vibrant acidity balancing the opulent sweetness. A benchmark for mature Chenin Blanc, this bottle is a compelling acquisition for serious collectors and those seeking a historic, cellar-worthy Loire white.
John Gilman 95 points! "I love the style of the 1985 Vouvrays, as they are not a particularly rich vintage, but the clarity and purity of the wines more than makes up for not having quite the same amplitude as a vintage such as 1989. The ’85 Clos du Bourg Moelleux is a recent re-release from the estate and well worth a search of the marketplace to latch onto, as it is a stunning wine. The beautiful and utterly refined nose offers up a complex mélange of apple, honeycomb, an exotic touch of yellow plum, citrus zest, a hint of straw, chalky soil tones, just a whisper of lanolin and a topnote of orange blossoms. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and zesty, with just a delicate touch of botrytis, excellent focus and balance and a great grip on the very long and crisp finish. This is not a blockbuster vintage of Clos du Bourg Moelleux, but one of stunning intensity of flavor, magical complexity and perfect balance. A beautiful wine. (Drink between 2010-2060)"
