Michel Guigneir is a rising star organic Beaujolais producer who wouldn't be out of place next to Lapierre or Metras. Michel's respect for nature and his vineyards is apparent is part of his life, and whether it is plowing by horse or letting the grasses and wildflowers grow between vines, every step taken is to improve the environment and the synergy between nature. Michel got his start in 1989 after purchasing 3 hectares of vines in Morgon and, from the beginning, practiced organics to produce wines that stood out from the majority of Beaujolais. While he may not be as widely known as the top names in the game, his passion for great wines and nature has furthered this estate, and today Michel has 11 hectares of vines. The Morgon Canon is the flagship wine here and comes from the first few hectares that Michel purchased, and today the vines are over 70 years old planted on classic decomposed granite soils. It's a wine of great freshness and intensity, showing purity through his winemaking style with excellent depth, complexity, and a serious edge, like many of the top Beaujolais examples today. 2023 is the best ever from Guigneir and is the perfect choice to get acquainted with these wines. We have some of the only bottles of this rare Beaujolais available in the USA, and it is an up-and-comer not to miss at pricing that comes in a bit lower than the others at this level.
James Suckling 99 pts! This amazing Morgon has incredibly deep roots, but is also a flower reaching out towards the sun. Breathtaking mineral brilliance and energy on the medium-bodied palate. This embodies the spirit of Beaujolais in an extraordinary, uplifting way. Pristine and precise finish that’s so long and so pure. Matured sur lie in oak casks. Bottled unfiltered. Drink or hold.
