The 2024 Pernot-Belicard Bourgogne Blanc is easily one of the best Bourgogne Blancs we have tasted this year and a wine that dramatically overdelivers its classification. It shows exceptional purity, tension, and minerality, but what really impressed us was its classic fruit profile and overall balance, with bright citrus and orchard fruit carried by beautiful acidity and a long, mouthwatering finish. A touch of dry extract gives the wine additional grip and substance through the back of the palate, pushing this remarkably close to village-level white Burgundy in quality. Philippe Pernot works from a collection of parcels around Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault, and the 2024 has exactly the cool, precise, and mineral style we want from this part of the Côte de Beaune. This is also an address to take increasingly seriously, as Philippe is part of the next generation of the great Paul Pernot family as grandson of Paul Pernot. We just learned that Michel Pernot is retiring, and additional family vineyards are beginning to move toward Philippe Pernot and his cousin Alvina Pernot for their respective domaines, which is something we have seen on the horizon since tasting with Philippe in 2018. For now, though, the Bourgogne Blanc alone is enough to get excited about and is exceptionally pure, energetic, and complete, and one of our favorite Bourgogne Blancs of the entire 2024 vintage from a very underrated address.
