The top selections from Arterberry have just arrived at our warehouse, and we have one of the favorites today from the family's own vineyard. Arterberry Maresh, run by third-generation winemaker Jim Maresh, bottles this single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the family’s high-elevation Maresh Vineyard in the Dundee Hills (Jory volcanic soils; primarily own-rooted Pommard and Wädenswil planted in the 1970s). The 2023 season delivered generous ripeness with excellent natural acidity, and the cellar work stayed classical: spontaneous fermentations, mostly destemmed fruit with a judicious whole-cluster share as parcels allowed, then ~12 months’ élevage in largely neutral barriques and bottling with minimal handling to keep site precision front and center. The wine is vivid and detailed with red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry with rose petal, orange peel, tea-spice, and a cool, red-clay/mineral drive. The palate is sleek yet deep, threading juicy fruit through fine tannins and lively acidity into a long, energetic finish. Beautiful now, given some time to open up, yet poised to age very well over the next decade. This is one of the best of the vintage and not a bottle to miss for both new and old world Pinot Noir fans!
Vinous (Eric Guido) 96 points! "The 2023 Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard is impossible to ignore, offering an array of crushed cherries and minty herbs, along with a hint of clove and stone dust that tempt the senses. Elegance defines the feel, as velvety textures are supported by cool-toned acidity while red and blue fruits swirl across the palate, leaving a crunchy mineral tinge toward the close. A web of fine-grained tannins adds structure and poise as the 2023 finishes with outstanding length and energy, leaving inner rose tones and a pleasantly bitter twang to linger. Fabulous."
