2011 Château Magdelaine

$109.99
2011 Château Magdelaine
This is a tremendous effort for the vintage, but sadly, the last vintage of Chateau Magdelaine produced, the juice now goes into Chateau Bel-Air Mon-Ange. We tasted a bottle this week and were duly impressed. With about 1 hour in the decanter, there was lovely aromas of blue and red fruits, a touch of earth, game, and savory herbs. The pallet has beautiful balance, incredible depth, and a kaleidoscope finish. This is excellent juice and one of the wines of the vintage, and I will drink it for decades to come. We have a few cases in stock, and we also have some rare 375ml's left as well.

John Gilman 92+ points! "By this point in the tasting, I was really starting to wonder about my palate, but with the 2011 Magdelaine, it was easy to see that the problem was the three previous vintages of Bélair-Monange, not my palate. The 2011 Magdelaine is a ripe wine, as this was a drought vintage, and comes in at a pretty robust fourteen percent octane, but here there is balance, refinement and underlying mineral drive that is sorely missing in the above wines. The bouquet offers up a very youthful blend of black cherries, chalky minerality, menthol, cigar wrapper, a touch of fresh herbs and a nice foundation of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nascently complex, with an excellent core, superb soil signature, firm, fine-grained tannins and a long, focused and very well-balanced finish. This will be lovely juice in the fullness of time. (Drink between 2027 - 2080)
