2014 Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Les Saints Remys

$109.99
2014 Marguet Champagne Grand Cru Extra Brut Les Saints Remys
One of the best agriculturalists of grower Champagne Benoit Marguet, while slightly esoteric in personality and production, fashions outstanding and expressive bottles of bubbles. This is 100% Pinot Noir from the Ambonnay lieu dits 'Les Saint Remys'. 2014 is the inaugural vintage of this cuvee and to date is his only lieu dits Blanc de Noirs. Vinified in barrels of various sizes with 4 years spent on the lees before release, this is one of Benoits richer cuvees but isn’t lacking in freshness or brightness due to the inherently intense minerality and acidity. Delcious, vineyard driven Champagne that can be rather hard to find but after tasting, one realizes it was the worth the search and every penny spent.
John Gilman 94+ The Saints-Rémys bottling is the newest single vineyard in Benoît Marguet’s excellent roster and it makes its debut in the 2014 vintage. Saints-Rémys lies high up on the slope in Ambonnay, not far from the Bouzy border on the southern side of the village. Monsieur Marguet is making a Blanc de Noirs entirely from pinot noir in this parcel, with the 2014 having been disgorged in March of 2019. The wine is absolutely stellar on both the nose and palate, with the bouquet offering up scents of white peach, a hint of passion fruit, patissière, complex soil tones and a lovely topnote of white flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and beautifully balanced, with fine focus and grip, a lovely core, elegant mousse and a long, refined and very classy finish. Welcome to the family! (Drink between 2019-2050)
