2023 Domaine Vincent et Francois Jouard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes Vieilles Vignes

We are excited to offer one of the top buys for 2023 Chassagne-Montrachet premier cru today via the 2023 Domaine Vincent et Francois Jouard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Les Fairendes Vieilles Vignes. The Jouard Domaine has a rich history in Chassagne; founded in the early 1800s, they produce some of the best values in the appellation, but their wines are rare and hard to get hold of, so we are only seldom able to offer these excellent wines. The two brothers, Vincent and Francois, have been running this Chassagne-Montrachet-based Domaine since the 90s, and nearly every wine they make comes from old vines, and for the Morgeot Fairendes VV, the vines are closing in on 90 years old! Fairendes is a special parcel within Morgeot located at the top of the slope, next to Grands Ruchottes, most famously made by JM Pillot. However, Jouard's vines are significantly older, and is hands down the best buy this vintage. The 2023 vintage brings ripe citrus and stone fruit, white flowers, and cool crushed-rock notes, carried by lively acidity and a long, chalky finish that will broaden with three to five years in bottle and continue positively for a decade. For clients, this is a high-confidence buy made with true old-vine material, apparent premier-cru depth, and made in the estate's transparent style at low pricing. This is highly recommended, and if you were only to buy one 2023 Chassagne 1er Cru, this should be the one!

John Gilman 93+ points! "The climat of les Fairendes is one of the very finest that make up the extended Morgeots vineyard, as this parcel sits high up on the slope, just below the great premier cru vineyard of Grands Ruchottes. The Jouard brothers vines here are closing in on ninety years of age now and this cuvée is raised in one-third new casks each year. The 2023 les Fairendes is outstanding, offering up a focused and vibrant nose of pear, apple, chalky soil tones, a touch of lemon peel, dried flowers, macadamia nut and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and full-bodied, with a great core of old vine fruit, superb mineral undertow and grip, zesty acids and a very long, complex and impeccably balanced finish. This is certainly approachable right out of the blocks, but there is so much more to unfold here that not giving it at least three or four years in the cellar will be tantamount to wasting bottles! Superb juice."
