2009 Pierre de Crillon Gevrey Chambertin 1er Fonteny

$79.99

Today, we have two excellent premier cru red Burgundies with age, released ex-cellar directly from Pierre de Crillon in pristine condition. A friend of ours in France tried both of these recently and said they were great textbook Burgundies at excellent prices. Pierre de Crillon is a discreet producer with holdings in a few of Gevrey’s best terroirs, and today, we are featuring Fontenys.

The 2005 and 2009 Fonteny are two great examples of this Gevrey premier cru sourced from a compact ~3.7 ha slope just below the grand crus near Ruchottes, on stony limestone that gives lifted red fruit, floral spice, and excellent minerality. The 2005 shows the vintage’s depth and structure with concentrated cherry, savory earth, and fine, long-grained tannins, built for extended cellaring yet beautifully composed today. The 2009 is riper and more plush, offering fleshy raspberry, sweet spice, and silkier texture while retaining site definition. These are smart buys for those seeking a lovely premier cru Gevrey. Having rested undisturbed in the domaine’s cellars until now, these bottles offer exceptional provenance and a rare chance to experience mature and perfectly aged Burgundy from one of the region’s finest appellations at fantastic pricing.
