2014 Château Lafleur-Gazin

$59.99
2014 Château Lafleur-Gazin

We have a rare back vintage of Château Lafleur-Gazin that has just been released from the domaine in perfect condition (pictured above). A smart buy for Pomerol that brings the signature touch of famed Bordeaux winemaker Christian Moueix ( into reach at a great price. 2014 is a blend of 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from gravel and sand parcels, hand-picked, fermented with gentle extraction, and then aged 16 to 18 months in French oak, with approximately one-third of the barrels new. The long, cool 2014 harvest delivered energy and poise, resulting in a wine that showcases black plum and dark cherry, layered with cedar, graphite, and a hint of tobacco, a supple mid-palate, and fine, chalky tannins that finish clean and savory. This is starting to show very well now, with over a decade of age, and is a brilliant buy for back vintage Bordeaux with excellent provenance.

Antonio Galloni 92-93 points! "A dense, powerful wine, the 2014 Lafleur-Gazin is terrific. The aromatics alone are beguiling, with distinct Cabernet Franc overtones, even though there is only 5% of Franc in the blend. Mocha, sweet herbs, tobacco, anise and leather build in the glass as the 2014 shows off its creamy, enveloping personality. The 2014 is obviously an infant, but its textural finesse and complex bouquet are incredibly enticing. The tannins will need to soften, but I can't imagine that will be an issue here. In 2014 the blend is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc."
