2020 Domaine Jean Monnier & Fils Beaune 1er Cru Montrevenots

$39.99
2020 Domaine Jean Monnier & Fils Beaune 1er Cru Montrevenots

This estate continues to fly under the radar, though it was established in 1720, and the 2020 Jean Monnier Montrevenots is a fantastic best buy late release premier cru that comes from the high, stony slope on Beaune’s southwest side right by the Pommard border, where thin limestone–marl soils give fine, chalky tannins and nice minerality. Hand-picked and fermented in open vats, the wine is raised about 12–15 months in French oak with a restrained share of new barrels to let the site speak. The warm, lower-yield 2020 season delivered concentrated yet lively fruit, and it shows here as red cherry and wild strawberry, rose and subtle spice, a touch of black tea, and a long, savory, stone-tinged finish. This is quietly serious Beaune with a pinch of Pommard backbone: approachable now and should continue to drink well for another 5+ years. It's a standout, rare buy for that category, ready to enjoy now, at a price that wont break the bank.
