While the Meursault-Charmes will always be one of our favorites here, the domaine also makes an impressive Perrieres, which is outstanding this vintage. This was one we tasted in barrel back in June 2024, and even in its pre-bottled state, it was extraordinary, showing all the raw materials for a great Meursault. As many know, Château de Meursault is an old address founded in the 11th century and revitalized in the 19th century. It is known for combining traditional Burgundian practices with modern precision, with a significant upsurge in quality during the 2010s. The 2023 Les Perrières comes from a 2.6-hectare parcel of stony, well-drained limestone soils in one of Meursault's most prestigious Premier Cru sites next to Charmes. Vinification included fermentation in oak (30% new) followed by 12 months of aging, aiming for a balance of richness and minerality that reflects the terroir's intensity and complexity. The 2023 vintage was marked by a warm growing season with well-timed rainfall, yielding ripe, concentrated fruit while maintaining freshness, yielding a sensational example of Perrieres that is one of the top buys for this vineyard this vintage and the 1er category for white Burgundy!
Jasper Morris 94-96 pts! 5 Stars! "A gleaming primrose color. All about the weight more than the class on the nose., All about the class on the palate, where it really kicks off, heading to the stars. You feel that there are many layers waiting to unfold, very gorgeous. Wonderful finish, the stones adding pinpoint precision to the weight of orchard fruit. Drink from 2030-2038. Tasted Oct 2024."
Vinous (Neil Martin) 93-95 points! " The 2023 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a fragrant nose with much more mineralité than the Charmes-Dessus, nuanced and introspective at first but gaining intensity in the glass. The palate is well balanced with orange pith and nectarine, cohesive and lightly spiced with good weight on the finish. You can feel this Les Perrières tingling long after it has departed. Very fine."
