2023 Vincent Pinard Sancerre Rosé

$29.99
2023 Vincent Pinard Sancerre Rosé
Pinard is the most under-the-radar names in Sancerre, on par with both the Cotats and even Vatan. We had the good fortune in France a few years back of having the chance to make a couple of stops at the country's top restaurants, and Pinard was one of the wines of the night, washing down one of the best meals in our lives. It just shows you that Coche and Raveneau aren't the only white wines fitting for a meal of this magnitude.
These are mesmerizing examples of Sancerre made by the sons of Vincent Pinard, Clement, and Florence, the 15th generation, to run their family estate in Bue. Their vineyards have been farmed organically for 15 years, and in 2017, they obtained a full biodynamic certification, no small feat. The Pinards like to pick early, which has helped them find balance in recent warmer vintages where many others struggled. While they pick earlier than producers like Cotat, they can still capture a similar power without the later harvest residual sugars that are sometimes leftover and are fermented in larger oak barrels of various sizes, spending reasonable time on the lees for more complexity and texture. This is the first time we have offered the rose here, and it's not a wine made annually. This is 100% Pinot Noir, and this rose's fruit comes specifically from a single small plot planted on a steep iron-rich slope. The fruit here is also specifically harvested for the rose and is not an afterthought, giving it impeccable balance and elegance without showing the alcohol on the finish like many other roses. 2023 will be a spectacular vintage for much of France, and this is no exception. It should be on par or better than the 2022, which received 92 points from Vinous. There is such a small amount of this made that it is never imported to the USA, and this is mainly just for the European market. We have some of the only bottles in the world today!
