We have a bit more of the 2025 Loibenberg from Alzinger today in two sizes! Alzinger is one of the benchmark estates of the Wachau, producing some of the region’s most precise, mineral-driven wines, and the 2025 Loibenberg is an outstanding example of how serious a Federspiel Riesling can be. Loibenberg’s south-facing terraces rank among the warmest sites in the Wachau, but Alzinger’s Riesling comes from lean, shallow soils over Gföhler gneiss, where higher elevations and cool nighttime air help preserve freshness and produce a tighter, more finely drawn expression of the vineyard. The 2025 captures that balance beautifully, combining the natural ripeness of Loibenberg with Alzinger’s cool, understated style. Fresh mango, white peach, and candied lime are layered with citrus zest and crushed stone, carried by refined acidity and a firm, tightly structured palate that finishes long, dry, and distinctly saline. At 12.5% alcohol, it has enough concentration and texture to feel substantial while remaining vibrant, refreshing, and exceptionally easy to drink. This is a fantastic introduction to one of Austria’s greatest producers and a remarkable value for single-vineyard Riesling from one of the Wachau’s most celebrated sites. With no markup over the previous vintage, these are fantastic buys!

Vinous (Anee Krebiehl) 96-98 pts! The 2025 Riesling Loibenberg Smaragd shows a cooler face of this site, shaded by forest and benefiting from altitude. Crushed citrus foliage emerges gently on the nose, still imbued with yeasty notes. The palate is a picture of tangerine and mandarin, taut, cool, bright, vivid and smooth. A juicy core of coolness drives it forward, culminating in gorgeous citrus freshness like a crashing wave. This is aromatic freshness in a driven, linear, laser-like package. Undoubted purity is by the by; this is Riesling and stone. (Drink between 2030 - 2065)
