Marc Hébrart Champagne Premier Cru Extra Brut Rosé NV

$44.99
Marc Hébrart Champagne Premier Cru Extra Brut Rosé NV
One of the great Rose champagnes, this is excellent, and after the House made the decision to change to extra brut, it has never been better. This is a fine-tuned and elegant style of Rose, which is tightly mineral-driven but with charming fruit from vineyards in Ay and Mareuil-sur-Ay. It is a delicious house pour with a lot of complexity and pedigree that goes well with various foods, some of our favorites being sushi and as a lovely aperitif. We recently tried a bottle, and it was stunning, drinking way over its price point, and it was perfect with the lower dosage. We have low pricing today on a few cases arriving in two weeks.

For years we have enjoyed the Marc Hebrart Rose, and it is a bottle that our clients love and ourselves. However, Jean-Paul Hébrart, son of Marc Hebrart and winemaker here, recently started a new rose cuvee, which is what we have today and that is the Extra Brut Rose that sees the same blend as the Brut rose of 57% Chardonnay and 43% Pinot Noir of which 7% is still red wine. The dosage is cut in half at about 3.5g, bringing out the beautiful mineral and vineyard-driven characteristics that many of our clients enjoy. Jean-Paul has been transitioning many of his cuvees to extra-brut; as William Kelley notes below, it is a welcome change, upping the purity of fruit and giving more transparency. We were able to try a sample and were very impressed with its newfound vineyard-driven character, with the perfect dosage showing excellent balance. These were just disgorged after vinification in stainless steel and aging on the lees for 24 months. The Extra Brut is a beautiful grower rose that is a must for fans of Marc Hebrart and we have the only bottles available in the USA right now.

Wine Advocate (William Kelley) 91 points! "Disgorged in May 2020, the latest release of Hébrart's NV Extra-Brut Premier Cru Rosé offers up notes of red apple, pear, fresh pastry and Meyer lemon. Medium to full-bodied, bright and pillowy, with racy acids and a pinpoint mousse, it's crisp and precise, with a charming core of fruit. This is another cuvée where the transition from brut to extra-brut really allows the quality of the fruit to shine."
