2019 Gérard Seguin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Craipillot

$59.99
2019 Gérard Seguin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Craipillot
The 2019 Craipillot is the best buy for Premier Cru red Burgundy right now, and we just picked up a few more cases after trying a bottle last week. This is an impressive bottle at this pricing, with 2019 being the best example Seguin has produced of this old vine cuvee. While most deals come from the Cote de Beaune, getting a deal on a Cote de Nuits wine like Gevrey-Chambertin and Premier Cru, no less, is nice. This Premier Cru is less than some village wine pricing, and even Bourgogne Rouge in some instances. Highly recommended; we have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA.

We have unheard-of pricing for 2019 premier cru Red Burgundy from Gerard Seguin. Founded in 1850, Seguin isn't a widely known producer in the States, and only a few of their wines make it to US shores, and what does, usually, doesn't get past the East Coast. Today Gerards, his son Hippolyte, and grandson Pierre run this estate and have expanded their holdings. These are traditionally made wines with Burgundian integrity, a sense of place and complexity, structure, elegance, power, and minerality; textbook Burgundy. Gerard was one of the first to graft his vines to American root stalks after the phylloxera crisis, and his original plot of vines was .5 hectares of Craipillot located right in front of their property in Gevery-Chambertin. The vines here today are mostly 90 years old, located at the upper exit of the village, at the entrance to the Combe de Lavaux, at the foot of Clos Saint-Jacques. One of the lesser known Crus of Gevery-Chambertin but still very Chambertin in Character with excellent purity of fruit, floral perfume, power, elegance, and complexity. 2019 is the best vintage of this wine that Seguin has made, and it is an incredible buy for the category. We have low pricing on some of the only bottles available in the USA, and it is easily the best buy for 2019 premier cru Burgundy right now.

Wine Enthusiast (Roger Voss) 94 points! "This small vineyard, just on the edge of the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, has produced a rich wine, still with obvious wood aging flavors that will integrate over the next years. The black fruits and structure promise aging, giving a wine that is dense and full. Drink from 2026."
