The much anticipated Rose from one of the great Champagne Houses, Philipponnat, this Cuvee like the regular 1522, is an homage to the year the house was founded. Sourcing from some of the best Grand Cru vines they own, seeing 62% Pinot from the parcel 'Le Leon' in Ay and from Mailly with 27% Chardonnay from Verzy and 11% still red wine made from Pinot Noir from the Clos des Goisses vineyard. A portion of the wine is vinified in oak barrels with no malolactic fermentation preserving the freshness and allowing for more extended aging on the lees (8 years), and promoting complexity. 2012 was deemed a great vintage for an extra-brut, and this Cuvee sees a low, finely calculated dosage of 4.25 g/l. This has long been one of our favorite Cuvees here, and in 2012, which is such a great Pinot Noir vintage, it is spectacular and one of the best ever for the 1522 Rose. So fresh with lovely minerality, red fruits, marzipan, and sometimes unexpected notes of chocolate. The palate is a beautiful dance between fruit and minerality, generous yet refined. This is one of the first shots at this Cuvee in the USA and are currently the only bottles available right now at what will be US low pricing. A highly recommended bottle only made in the best vintages.
Decanter 94 points! "Elaborated with 62% of Pinot Noir sourced from Aÿ and Mailly, and 27% of Chardonnay from Verzy, this Champagne contains 11% of red wine from Pinot Noir from Clos des Goisses vineyards in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. With an intense and vibrant bouquet of raspberry, strawberry, almond, cherry and pastry, this rosé has a full-bodied, vinous texture, racy acidity and a delicately phenolic finish. Dosage: 4.25g/L."
