The 1990 Foreau Domaine du Clos Naudin Vouvray Moelleux Réserve is a benchmark sweet Chenin from a great Loire vintage and one of the estate’s most age-worthy bottlings. Philippe Foreau selected the ripest, most concentrated passes, often with a high share of noble rot (botrytis), from tuffeau-rich parcels above Vouvray, pressed slowly, fermented with native yeasts in neutral vessels, and blocked malolactic to preserve clarity and drive, and élevage avoided new oak to keep the terroir front and center. In the glass, it is layered yet precise: quince paste, baked apple, apricot, and acacia honey, with beeswax, chamomile, saffron, and a chalky, saline spine that reins in the richness. Fully mature bottles are thrilling now, silky and long, but the acidity and extract promise further positive evolution for many years. This is an incredible, sweet Vouvray that delivers both immediate pleasure and serious cellar pedigree at a great price, and these bottles are in perfect condition.
